The Great Design Studio in the Sky….

6th May 2008

We were very sorry to hear about the death of Paul Arden who passed away suddenly on April 8th. His books have been a great inspiration to all of us here at underscore towers, and we often refer to his “It’s not how good you are it’s how good you want to be” in times of need.

A legend in the largely anonymous world of advertising, he followed Jeremy Sinclair as the chief creative in Saatchi & Saatchi through the firm’s most glamorous and best-known period in the 1980s. He was the ringmaster behind the campaign that saw British Airways become “The World’s Favourite Airline” and was art director on one of the the most graphically clever English advertising campaigns ever for Silk Cut (the one with photography of cut purple silk - genius).

So, if you want an insight into such diverse subjects as the value of being fired, and why it’s often better to be wrong than to be right, consult the legend that is Paul Arden’s books.

20th April 2008

I bet you can’t guess but I’ve entered the next don’t panic poster competition. (”Not again” groans are heard around the office) This months entry tackles the theme of Culture. Having been inspired by the recent works of the mighty Banksy, I’ve taken the idea of how our nation is constantly under the watchful eye of the ever present CCTV camera. As ever I campaign for your votes so for this month I promise to make any voters a cuppa, may it be tea, coffee, hot water with lemon, bovril, hot ribena or a cuppa soup. So if the prospect of a well made hot bevvie whets your appetite to vote, please do so here.

n.b - The offer of a hot beverage is only really open to those in the office but hey, you win some you lose some. Good times.
